A photographer’s biggest challenge (at least in my case) is photographing their own family.  The kids, used to a camera always in their face, and turn a deaf ear and completely tune out the calls of the frustrated mommytog.  So what do we do?  Call in reinforcements!  Meet Kimberly of Kimberly Dunn Photography.  I’ve been photographing her family for a couple of years now.  They have added a member to the group since their last family session so its time for an update.  Thanks Kimberly!

Sunday I drove out to Napa for a session with these cute newly weds.  They were united a few months ago but didn’t have a photographer…so they asked me to come out and take some portraits of them!

Of course we can’t forget their little man.  He ran all over the place!

…And a shot of their rings.

Last night’s session was with the winners of the big contest I held in January.  They bagged themselves a free session and $100 in prints.  I’ve been shooting them for years (they were one of my first families) and its been fun to see them grow!  Thanks for coming out last night guys!

Monday evening I met up with this family for a session at the arboretum.  The kids are growing up and they may not have another chance for a family portrait…so that is where I came in!

The sisters wanted one together…One just graduated and the other is entering her senior year.  Exciting times!

I asked for a serious face…and just love his hint of a smile.  Such a handsome young man!

Just a quickie before my laptop battery dies.  I can’t find all of my charger at the moment.  Argh!  Hopefully this will tide you over a bit.  Thanks so much!

This evening I did a huge extended family session at the UCD arboretum.  Of course its nice to get a mellow traditional shot of all the cousins looking at the camera…

…but my personal faves are when the kids can relax and have fun!

Last night I met up with sweet little “A” at the capitol.  For a relaxing session we started with some yoga (complete with hand positions)!

As you can see the relaxing part didn’t happen and she took off!

She is too cute for works and I always enjoy playing with her.

Afterwards I met up with a family consisting of two teenage boys.  I bet their parents are beating the girls off with sticks!

Last night I met up with this family for a mini session.  Brother and sister were so sweet together!  Thanks for coming out guys!

Last night I had a marathon engagement session with this awesome couple.  We went all over the place…downtown, the high school, the bridge, an orchard, the family farm, and back to their place.  I took so many pictures its going to take me forever to sift through them all!  Enjoy your sneak peek!

This last image is special.  Janet showed me a cool old picture of her grandparents and asked me to recreate it.  So sweet!

Best of 2009 contest!

January 22, 2010

Wow, where did the year go?  I went through the blog and picked some of my favorite images from 2009.  There were so many great shots that I wasn’t able to include all my clients.  Never fear however…if you don’t see yours your didn’t have the chance to book a session in 2009 with me I have something for you too.   Thats, right, I’m shaking things up this year.  Instead of one winner there will be four!  Thats right…four!  The top three images with the most votes will win a free session with me (a $100 value!).  To keep things interesting the one picture with the most votes overall will also get a $100 print credit.  Where does the fourth winner come it? If you are local leave a comment on the blog. I’ll randomly draw one winner for a free session as well. I’ve picked favorite images, now it is time to vote for YOURS! To vote just scroll down past the pictures and click on the box next to the number of the picture you choose.

The contest will run through January 28th and will end at 11:59pm.  To keep things fair, only one vote per household please!  And don’t be tempted to vote more because I can check IP addresses.   Sending your family and friends on over is totally legit though.  Have fun and get voting!
